Blood & Ink: Straight and Narrow

“But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
— Matthew 7:14, Bible
You will find—all too easily—unsolicited life advice cosplaying as wise teaching online that says you can do anything you want—that the future holds endless optionality.
But when you get down to the brass tax of living a virtuous life, this could not be further from the truth.
The righteous path is straight and narrow.
It does not leave room for negotiation.
When considering the best course of action, if you adhere to a personal code, you watch the choices evaporate.
When one is committed to Truth, Integrity, Courage, Discipline, Purpose, or Moral Conduct, suitable choices are few and far between.
When you begin to ask, “What is the most courageous choice?” or “What brings me closer to God?”, or even “What is in alignment with my highest Self?”, you are not confronted with an overwhelming deluge of options.
In your heart of hearts, in the deepest moments of revelation, you are confronted with The Path.
Singular. Significant. Unquestionable.
If it makes you simultaneously ecstatic and terrified, you’re in the right ballpark.
The question is not what to do, but rather: will you do it?
This is what the ancients meant when they say that the righteous path is Straight and Narrow.
There are an infinite number of ways you can avoid the path. Many choices, made from smallness, fear, doubt, and uncertainty, will take you part of the way, but you will know.
Have the courage to walk the Path.
Develop the unshakeable Integrity to always make this choice.
When you Trust, unquestionably, that where that Path takes you is not only in your highest good but in the highest good of all, you will be endowed with the strength of character to make those choices and walk the path.
If your path is truly unclear, become very still and very quiet.
Some will call this meditation, others will call it prayer. Hold the question in your mind, and in the still silence, you will hear your answer. The next step forward along the path will reveal itself.
The only question is, will you take it?
The path is straight and narrow,
