Blood & Ink: New Years Eliminations

What if you did the opposite of a New Year’s resolution?

As everyone is in the throws of making new to-do lists, setting nigh-unattainable goals for the year, and finding the perfect places for the deluge of gifts they received… what if you went the other direction?

What if you focused on New Year’s eliminations?

  • What if you donated half your possessions? Creating physical cleanliness and spaciousness, while making everything you own more meaningful.
  • What if you stopped 2 time-wasting habits? Opening up 2-4 hours a day that you didn’t realize you had.
  • What if you dropped a lukewarm commitment/project? Freeing up vast amounts of mental space and conscious attention.
  • What if you let go of an identity instead of reinforcing a new one? Becoming more fluid in your self-image and better able to respond to life.

There is a real benefit to resolutions: there is always value in setting clear intentions for your life.

The value of elimination is less recognized in our busy, materialistic culture.

Eliminating the dead wood—be it physical possessions, mental baggage, or unaligned commitments—creates fertile ground for new growth to take root.

They don’t need to be ‘replaced’ by something ‘better’. You could create more space, beauty, and openness in your life and stop. Opening the generative void that spontaneous, brilliant emergence comes from.

It opens mental and emotional spaciousness that most of us have forgotten is even possible.

As the New Year rolls along—it’s worth considering what can be eliminated from your life, as well as added to.

Happy subtracting,
EB.
