“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.”
– Carl Jung
Show me who you are…
Talk is cheap. The domain of rhetoric and sophistry.
To my astonishment, it was Bitcoin that drilled this lesson into me.
Bitcoins’ fundamental mechanism—the proof-of-work hash function—requires energy to be expended to guess the solution to a massively complex equation.
This energy expenditure is the divine thread that connects the abstract digital realm of Bitcoin to the living and breathing earth.
Solving the hash function requires computation. Computation requires energy. If you deliver the solution for the has function, it demonstrates—undoubtedly—that you put in the work to solve it.
“Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.”
— Marcus Aurelius
- Don’t tell me you’re committed to the project. Show me. Invest the time and energy, be proactive, and make good on your promises.
- Don’t tell me you love someone. Show me. Let it shine through evidently in your actions.
People fool themselves (and others) into thinking that what you say is enough.
Until it is grounded in action (read: in reality) it’s hyperbole, mere conjecture. You must put in the work, and demonstrate your proof of work.
When a morbidly obese person says “I’m healthy,” – what do you listen to? Their words or their actions?
When a triggered husband is arguing with his wife and yells, “I AM calm right now!” – what do you listen to? Their words or their actions?
Do not tell me who you are.
Do not even tell yourself.
Demonstrate it. Embody it. Be it.
Show me who you are,
Eric Brown.
